What is an essential oil ?
It is the lifeblood of the plant, not all plants produce them either. What makes them different from Chinese herbs? They are alive. In Chinese medicine there is something called Jing, that is our essence.
We inherit Jing from our parents, it is made of our mothers health during pregnancy and from her genetics also.
Oils are retrieved by the plan by cold pressing or steam distillation. The purer the distillation the stronger the oil.
Oils can be absorbed through the skin, through the nose and lungs via diffusing and ingesting.
These access different systems of the body. With a carrier oil, the oils can penetrate the skin and go right into the blood stream and access cells. Oils we want to go into our digestive tract can be ingested.
If you haven't noticed more yummy smells at my office.. then I have to tell you! I have been incorporating more and more #Aromatherapy, mostly #DoTerra into my treatments. Sometimes I use one for pain and inflammation, other times we use a few drops for whatever you are going through emotionally. One of my favorites is console (www.doterra.com/US/en/p/console-comforting-blend-oil ) by DoTerra. A few years ago, I lost my sister to alcoholism, Here is what this blend does "Losing something or someone you love can be deeply disorienting and painful. Words unspoken and questions unanswered may keep you worried and unsettled. doTERRA Console Comforting Blend of floral and tree essential oils will help you close the door on sadness and take your first steps on a hopeful path toward emotional healing. Bind your broken heart with doTERRA Console Comforting Blend".
I recently suffered some shock and loss again and this blend is genuinely soothing. Moving through grief can be one of the hardest challenges in life, why not support yourself with Acupuncture, meditation, exercise and essential oils? Essential oils can have a powerful effect on our emotions.
How to Essential Oils apply to Chinese Medicine ?
Well, aromatic flowerrs awaken our senses and heal our spirit/mind. Diffusing essential oils is a powerful way for us to breathe them in, or dab them on a specific point and they enter into our bloodstream. They are essential concentrated herbs, they are the "lifeblood" of the plant. In fact they are the deepest, most powerful essence of the plant.
Many of the main Essential Oils use are also well used Chinese Herbs:
Tangerine peel is a Chinese herb that is great for strengthening digestion. One I have used often with a heating pad on my daughters aching belly. Citrus scents are also good for mental clarity, brighting the mind.
Sandlewood is also! It soothes the stomach and is calming to the heart. www.chineseherbshealing.com/sandalwood/
Are Essential Oils for real? Or are they just a fad?
I decided to try it out for myself. I have been using them religiously with myself and kids and I have noticed a HUGE difference over time. Being in my profession, there are plenty of things that are a hoax. I diffuse citrus blends and bergamot ( a type of orange) in the morning, for feeling more cheerful and clear headed, just lemon and lavender along will perk you up, and the same time make you feel more peaceful . When my daughter had a cold last week, I used some great oils to ward of pathogens and also help her lungs, sinuses. Within three days her cough was gone.
